Designperspektiven: «Exhibition Design» with Damian Fopp

Exhibition design is so much more than a neutral framework. It shapes how artworks are encountered, how bodies move, and how attention is directed. It is collaborative, resource-intensive, atmospheric, and often temporary.

In his talk, Damian Fopp will offer insights into his work and projects, and discuss why these conditions matter today. He will reflect on collaboration with designers and artists, on the ecological footprint of spatial production, on the constraints of traveling formats and their ephemeral qualities, and on questions of participation and transparency within institutions.

He will show a range of projects, dive into how different approaches translate into concrete spatial decisions, and highlight the role of negotiation and exchange in developing formats that respond to contemporary demands.

Damian Fopp is an exhibition designer and curator based in Zürich, working at the intersection of spatial design and curatorial practice. His work focuses on how display, material, and atmosphere shape the experience and understanding of content. He develops projects in collaboration with museums, designers and artists, and cultural institutions, ranging from site-specific installations to traveling formats and collection displays. His approach emphasises exhibition design as a central component of curatorial work rather than a purely technical service.
