«Bioregional Hacking» ist ein Hands-on-Workshop von Caja Peters und Micha Baggenstos, begleitend zur Ausstellung Material Arguments. Darin werden industrielle Objekte mit Wolle und Ton experimentell umgearbeitet.

Alte, vergessene, kaputte und unbrauchbare Produkte werden durch die Umarbeitung mit Ton und Wolle in neue, eigenständige Objekte transformiert. Der Fokus liegt dabei auf den Materialien und den Verarbeitungsmethoden. Im Kontrast zu industriell massengefertigten Produkten aus meist fossilen Ressourcen nutzen wir regionale Wolle und Ton – zwei lebendige, sich anpassende Materialien –, um die industriellen Objekte in Form, Gestaltung und Nutzbarkeit zu hacken. Dabei entstehen experimentelle Objekte, die sich an der Schnittstelle zwischen Funktion und Skulptur bewegen.

Durch die Arbeit mit Ton und Wolle wollen wir einen neuen Bezug zu Materialien herstellen: von isolierter, anonymer Ressource zu verbundener, lebendiger Materie.

Der Workshop ist offen für alle. Teilnehmende sind eingeladen, eigene industriell produzierte Objekte mitzubringen – Elektroschrott, Staubsauger, Lampen, Stühle. Eine Auswahl an Objekten stellen wir zusätzlich bereit. Gemeinsam werden wir diese verändern, umbauen und hacken und so eine andere, regional verankerte Materialpraxis entwerfen.

«Bioregional Hacking» is a hands-on workshop led by Caja Peters and Micha Baggenstos, accompanying the exhibition Material Arguments. In the workshop, industrial objects are experimentally reworked with wool and clay.

Old, forgotten, broken, and non-combustible products are transformed into new, independent objects through the use of clay and wool. Thereby, the focus lies on the materials and processing methods. In contrast to mass-produced industrial products made mostly from fossil resources, we use regional wool and clay—two living, adaptable materials—to hack the industrial objects in terms of form, design, and usability. This results in experimental objects that exist at the intersection of function and sculpture.

Through working with clay and wool, we aim to establish a new relationship with materials: from isolated, anonymous resources to interconnected, living matter.

The workshop is open to everyone. Participants are invited to bring their own industrially produced objects—electronic waste, vacuum cleaners, lamps, chairs. We will also provide a selection of objects. Together we will modify, rebuild, and hack these objects in order to design a different, regionally rooted material practice.
